Stray Animals in Northern Cyprus Suffer Due to the Cold
The harsh weather conditions that began in early February and persist to this day have hit stray animals in Northern Cyprus particularly hard. Vehicle owners are being urged to check their car compartments for cats seeking shelter from the cold.
According to Sinan Güneş, the Director of the TRNC Meteorology Department, the drop in nighttime temperatures has made life even more challenging for stray animals in Northern Cyprus. These animals, already fighting for survival on the streets, are now facing a shortage of food, water, and safe places to hide.
To help stray cats and dogs, residents are encouraged to leave food and water out, and to set up shelters with blankets outside their homes. It’s also recommended that vehicle owners take extra precautions by tapping the hood of their car before starting the engine in the morning, as cats may be hiding inside.
Although temperatures have begun to rise slightly today, and the rain, snow, and strong winds have subsided, meteorologists predict that the bad weather will continue in Northern Cyprus over the next few days.
