Energy Supply Security and the Economy of the TRNC Discussed at Summit in Ankara

The security of energy supply and the economy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) emerged as key topics at the recent summit held in Ankara. The TRNC Prime Minister held discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.

According to the Prime Minister's press office, the meetings lasted over five hours in total. They also included participation from the Minister of Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Fikri Ataoğlu; the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Arıklı; the Minister of Finance, Özdemir Berova; the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hüseyin Çavuş; the TRNC Ambassador in Ankara, İsmet Korukoğlu; the President of the Central Bank, Rıfat Günay; and the Turkish Ambassador in Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim.

Cevdet Yılmaz welcomed Ünal Üstel at the Presidential Complex, which was followed by a one-on-one meeting. Subsequently, delegation meetings commenced. The primary focus of the discussions centered around the electricity sector in Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya; the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu; and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, also joined the talks.

As part of his itinerary in Ankara, the TRNC Prime Minister was received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Today, Ünal Üstel will continue his meetings in Ankara. The delegation is expected to return to the island at 5:30 PM.
