Heavy Trucks Banned from Girne - Nicosia Highway
As of yesterday, vehicles weighing 5 tons or more have been banned from using the stretch of the Girne-Nicosia main road between the underpass and St. Hilarion Castle. This decision was taken to improve road safety and maintain public order.
The Department of Highways' decision was officially published in the “Official Gazette” and has now come into effect.
With this new rule, a previous decree has been revoked. The previous ban on heavy vehicles using this road was lifted on March 11, 2021, to help ease traffic congestion on the mountain route.
