British police will be equipped with electroshock guns to tackle scooter riders

A new approach has been devised in the UK to address the issue of criminals using electric scooters and bicycles for mobility. The country is currently testing special electromagnetic weapons designed to disable electric modes of transportation.

According to the Daily Mail, the electromagnetic gun bears resemblance to the equipment used by the heroes in the movie “Ghostbusters”. Developed by the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) of the UK Ministry of Defense, it comes in the form of a special backpack with a gun.

This “weapon” works by simulating overheating of electric motors, which leads to the forced immobilization of electric vehicles. It can also be utilized to forcibly halt vehicles with internal combustion engines and potentially block electric cars, including Tesla models.

The publication highlights that electric scooters and bicycles have become auxiliary tools for thousands of crimes across the UK. It is anticipated that this “weapon of the future” for tackling electric scooter riders could be deployed to the police within the next few months.

Earlier, a public opinion poll was conducted in Nicosia to gauge citizens' attitudes towards electric scooter rentals. More than half of the respondents expressed strong opposition to kick-scooter sharing in the capital.
