Buse Savashkan Awarded "Athlete of the Year"
Buse Savashkan has been honored with the "Athlete of the Year" award at the 2024 Olympism Awards organized by the National Olympic Committee of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The talented high jumper, who showcased her skills at the Paris Olympics, received a car as a prize.
The award ceremony took place yesterday at the Iskele Grand Sapphire Hotel and recognized successful athletes, coaches, businesspeople, and managers who have contributed significantly to the development of sports.
During the event, a total of 10 athletes from various Olympic disciplines and one athlete from Paralympic competitions, who represented Turkey in the Balkan, European, and World Championships, were awarded.
This year, 20 athletes from the TRNC received accolades across 7 different non-Olympic sports.
The ceremony featured speeches from prominent figures, including TRNC President Ersin Tatar, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, NOC President Dursun Koç, and Nihat Usta, Vice President of the Turkish National Olympic Committee. Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç, who won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, also addressed the attendees.
It's worth noting that Buse Savashkan was the only athlete from the TRNC to compete at the Paris Olympics. She reached the finals and ultimately placed 10th by clearing a height of 1.86 meters. Her outstanding performance marked a historic achievement for the country.
