Four athletes from Northern Cyprus to compete in the Intercontinental Swimming Marathon in the Bosphorus
On August 22, 2025, it became known that four Turkish Cypriot swimmers will take part in the 37th Intercontinental Swimming Marathon across the Bosphorus — one of Turkey’s most prestigious and spectacular open-water competitions.
The main hope for success in the team is international master of sports Doğukan Ulaç, who aims to win his fourth victory in this marathon. He previously became champion in 2018, 2022, and 2023, while last year he finished second.
Along with Ulaç, the honor of Northern Cyprus will be represented by three more athletes: Nermin Ulaç, Boran Bora, and Demir Redif Demirdağ, as officially announced.
The course remains classic: a 6.5 km distance, starting from Kanlıca pier and finishing at Cemil Topuzlu Park in the Kuruçeşme district.
The Intercontinental Bosphorus Marathon is held annually under the auspices of the Turkish Olympic Committee and attracts hundreds of athletes from around the world, who swim across the strait between Europe and Asia. Although this publication does not specify the organizer or number of participants, the event has long been recognized as one of the symbols of open-water swimming.
