Following the Geneva summit, a TRNC delegation is continuing important diplomatic and economic discussions in Turkey. On Thursday, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with Turkish officials for a series of key negotiations. Today, an economic and financial cooperation agreement for 2025 is expected to be signed.

During his visit to Ankara, Prime Minister Üstel met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss bilateral and regional issues, as well as the outcomes of the recent Geneva summit on Cyprus.

He also held talks with Turkey’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum. Their discussions focused on environmental projects in the TRNC, the zero-waste initiative, wastewater treatment facilities, and collaborative efforts to combat climate change. They also explored new joint initiatives between the two countries.

One of the main topics on the agenda was the expansion of the Güngör landfill and waste transfer stations in the TRNC. Additionally, they exchanged views on sewage and wastewater treatment projects, which are essential for newly developing areas.

Meanwhile, the TRNC recently announced a tender for the operation of the Güngör solid waste landfill, with the contract valued at 43,567,241 Turkish lira.

The visit also included an interdepartmental meeting, where officials discussed various cooperation efforts.

As part of his Ankara visit, Prime Minister Üstel also paid a courtesy visit to Turkey’s Ministry of Justice, where he met with Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç. Their discussions focused on legal cooperation between the two countries and the ongoing investigation into the Isias hotel case.

Later in the day, TRNC Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova met with Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat. Minister Bolat reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to supplying X-ray machines to Famagusta Port and modernizing customs infrastructure.

— We have completed the delivery of X-ray machines to Famagusta Port, and our technical teams are continuing work on upgrading customs automation systems and improving product safety measures. I believe these discussions will help strengthen the economic ties between Turkey and the TRNC and further enhance trade relations, — said Ömer Bolat.
