Donald Trump Wins U.S. Presidential Election
According to preliminary reports, Republican Party candidate Donald Trump has won the U.S. presidential election and is now officially the 47th president of the United States. He has already addressed his supporters, announcing his victory.
As reported by Reuters, citing House Speaker Johnson, Trump secured 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed for victory. His opponent, current Vice President Kamala Harris—who took over for Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden after he exited the race—received 226 votes. The decisive win in the battleground state of Pennsylvania sealed Trump’s victory.
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele was the first to congratulate Trump on his win. Speaking to supporters in Florida, Trump proclaimed his victory, promising that his administration would usher in a "golden era" for the United States.
"I want to thank the American people. It is an extraordinary honor to be chosen as your forty-seventh president," said Trump.
Additionally, the Republican Party has strengthened its hold in the House of Representatives, with preliminary counts showing 187 seats for Republicans compared to 163 for Democrats. The Republicans also gained 51 seats in the Senate.
