The Road to the Monastery of Apostle Andrew Will Be Widened to 10 Meters
In Northern Cyprus, the road reconstruction project from Dipkarpaz to the Monastery of Apostle Andrew, which had been stalled for several years due to material supply difficulties, is gaining momentum.
According to the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Arikli, all difficulties have been overcome. The project will now be overseen by the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and the Environment, Fikri Ataoglu.
"There are no more obstacles before us. Roadworks will begin soon," stated the minister.
As a reminder, the road construction, funded by the Republic of Turkey, was supposed to commence within the framework of the Implementation Protocol of the General Plan for Roads of the TRNC for 2021-2022.
According to Fikri Ataoglu, 12 locations have already been identified for storing materials to be used in road construction. Within a week, three of the most suitable locations will be selected and licensed, after which road construction will commence.
The road is planned to be 25 kilometers long, starting near the Blu Sea hotel and ending at the Monastery of Apostle Andrew. The road itself will be widened to 6 meters, with a total width of 10 meters, considering bicycle and pedestrian lanes.
Fikri Ataoglu also noted that the area of the Monastery of Apostle Andrew has already been designed. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the municipality in the near future.
Furthermore, the minister promised to address the issue of donkeys, which has been a concern for local residents. It is expected that, in collaboration with the Tashkent Nature Park, the donkeys will be relocated to an enclosed area.
