In Northern Cyprus, a decision has been made to expropriate the area known as the "Ancient Quarry of Chrysokava" in Girne. The site has been designated as a first-degree archaeological area.

According to the decision published in the "Official Gazette," a plot of 2,695.99 square meters in the Upper Kyrenia region has been expropriated to continue archaeological excavations and to protect the site. Owners of real estate located in the designated area have the right to file objections within 15 days.

The Chrysokava limestone quarry consists of a rocky ridge known as the first cemetery of the Roman period. In a later period, it became the site of a Christian settlement.

In one of the ancient rock-cut tombs, the Ayia Mavra chapel was constructed. Fragments preserved on the walls are believed to date back to the 10th century.
