Rashid Pertev, former Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and a representative of the World Bank, has been honored with Chad’s National Order of State. The award was presented by Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno in recognition of Pertev’s outstanding contributions to the country’s development.

The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace. During his time in Chad, Rashid Pertev managed to increase the World Bank’s portfolio fivefold, reaching $2.7 billion. Significant investments were made under his tenure, including the construction of highways connecting Cameroon-Chad and Chad-Niger, the establishment of a solar-powered national energy system, and the advancement of agriculture, livestock, healthcare, and education sectors.

Moreover, Pertev personally intervened during the 2024 hunger crisis, providing various forms of assistance to 860,000 people over four months. Neighboring countries Cameroon and Sudan also mobilized resources to help address the refugee crisis.

The National Order of State, awarded to recognize outstanding service to the Republic of Chad, is considered the country’s highest honor. Established on April 12, 1960, this award is given by the Chadian president to a select group of recipients, including foreign heads of state.

This marks the second international state honor awarded to Rashid Pertev. In July 2020, the President of the Comoros Islands, Azali Assoumani, awarded him the State Order for his significant role in helping the country transition from low-income to middle-income status.
