Evacuation on Turkish Airlines flight

Passengers on a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Antalya experienced alarming moments after the Boeing 777-300 landed. Right after touchdown, the crew noticed smoke coming from the landing gear area, prompting an immediate response from the airport emergency services.
According to the airline, the incident was caused by a malfunction in the hydraulic system. Overheating in one of the pipes led to smoke, which could have resulted in a fire. For safety reasons, an emergency evacuation was carried out using inflatable slides.
All passengers and crew were evacuated from the aircraft. Turkish Airlines officially reported 47 passengers and 11 crew members on board. However, some sources claim there were 247 passengers and 13 crew members, but these numbers are not confirmed by the company.
After evacuation, the aircraft was towed to a safe zone, where technical inspections and repairs began. Turkish Airlines representative Yahya Üstün confirmed the flight was completed, and an alternative flight will soon be provided to the passengers.
General Director of Turkey’s General Directorate of State Airports Authority, Enes Çakmak, noted that the crew and airport services acted swiftly and in coordination. He emphasized that thanks to the timely response, serious consequences were avoided.
The airline and Turkish civil aviation have launched an investigation into the incident. The aircraft has been temporarily grounded pending a technical inspection.
