The Federation of Turkish Cypriot Taxi Associations in Northern Cyprus issued a written statement on November 3, criticizing the recent fuel price increase and stating that it will inevitably be reflected in taximeter rates.

Federation President Murat Karalar noted that the increase will lead to higher operating costs and an expected reduction in workload for taxi drivers.

Karalar called on the Licensing Committee of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to convene to discuss the consequences. He stressed that the committee should not only act as a body issuing “T-licenses”, but also take fair decisions in the interest of the sector.

The Federation stated that reflecting the increase in taximeter charges is inevitable, meaning a possible rise in taxi fares for residents. The statement urges authorities to consider the economic impact on the sector when making decisions.
