Final of the Northern Cyprus Football Cup to be Held with the Use of VAR for the First Time
The final match of the Northern Cyprus Football Cup will be conducted using the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. The video replay system will be applied in the TRNC for the first time.
The final of the Northern Cyprus Football Cup will take place on May 10 at the Atatürk Stadium. In the decisive match, Famagusta Türk Gücü and Göçmenköy teams will compete.
With the support of the broadcasting company Miracle Spor TV, two VAR referees will be stationed at the stadium in a section adjacent to the press rooms to monitor the situation during the match.
Crucial moments of the game, not dependent on the screen image, will be requested by the two VAR referees from the live broadcast director. If referee intervention is deemed necessary after assessment, the VAR referee will communicate with the referee using a radio. In this case, the referee will approach the monitor, which will be installed at the edge of the field, and make a decision after reviewing the controversial incident.
Earlier, the Central Referees' Board and representatives of Miracle Spor TV held a meeting regarding the VAR system, which is planned to be introduced for the first time in Northern Cyprus.
During the meeting, dedicated to technical details, it was announced that the possibility of implementing the VAR system in competitions during the final week of the league before the final match is being considered.
