TRNC Citizens Can Now Access Consular Services in Nearly Any Country
The Foreign Affairs Commission of Turkey's Grand National Assembly has approved an agreement that allows TRNC citizens to receive consular assistance. The agreement, signed between Turkey and the TRNC on July 20, 2023, ensures that TRNC citizens can now access consular services for all matters in any country where Turkey has a diplomatic mission.
This announcement was made by Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasın Ekrem Serim, ahead of the decision’s implementation.
"Consular services for TRNC citizens will be provided through the Republic of Turkey's diplomatic missions, which have the world’s third-largest network of diplomatic representations. This will help address issues faced by TRNC citizens globally, allowing them to access consular support no matter where they are," the ambassador stated.
He added that support would also be available in cases where TRNC citizens are detained, arrested, or imprisoned abroad. He emphasized that Turkey will always stand by the TRNC.
"We will never leave Turkish Cypriots, who we consider our own citizens, abandoned anywhere in the world. As the Republic of Turkey, we will always continue to offer our support," the ambassador concluded.
