Cyprus Aims to Connect Kyrenia with Cable Car to Saint Hilarion Castle and Bellapais Abbey
In Kyrenia, cable cars are set to be built connecting Saint Hilarion Castle and Bellapais Abbey. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoglu, during a session of the TRNC Parliament on the budget.
In his address to the Assembly, the minister responded to those who referred to the idea of cable cars in the country as an "unattainable dream."
"Speaking of the Ancient Port of Kyrenia was also a dream, but today it has come true. My team is working on the creation of cable cars," the minister stated.
It is noted that this time Fikri Ataoglu did not specify where exactly the cable car might appear, but previously he mentioned plans for the creation of two lines: one connecting Kyrenia to Bellapais Monastery, and the other to Saint Hilarion Castle.
Additionally, he shared information about other initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Tourism in 2023, including a tender for the reconstruction of Porta del Mare in the old city walls of Famagusta and the restoration of the railway station in Güzelyurt.
Fikri Ataoglu also stated that a video, prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Turkish Republic, showcasing the culture, natural, and historical beauty of the country, was broadcast on television in Russia, Germany, England, and Turkey.
The minister added that according to research, ticket prices for TRNC-Turkey flights are lower than prices for domestic flights within Turkey. Furthermore, this year, wide-body aircraft from Turkish Airlines arrived at Ercan Airport.
