Column by Karakuş: political struggle exacerbates social problems in Northern Cyprus
On September 8, 2025, the newspaper Gündem Kıbrıs published a column by an author under the pseudonym Karakuş, stating that a new wave of power struggle has begun in the country, and the population of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) again finds itself caught between conflicting sides.
According to the author, political games and rivalries push aside solutions to urgent problems: rising cost of living, unemployment, a sense of insecurity, and loss of hope. Karakuş notes that during the confrontation there are loud promises and mutual accusations, yet real measures to improve citizens’ lives remain on the sidelines.
The columnist warns of the risk of increasing social polarization, which, in his opinion, could hinder finding compromises and push economic and social initiatives into the background. The article emphasizes the need to pay attention to employment issues and access to essential services.
For TRNC residents, this means paying closer attention to economic signals and political decisions that may affect household expenses and the labor market. The article was published in Gündem Kıbrıs; the author is signed as Karakuş.
