Russian Consular Section in Northern Nicosia Assists 15,000 Fellow Citizens
The Consular Section of the Russian Federation Embassy in the Republic of Cyprus, operating in the northern part of the island, has provided consular services to more than 15,000 Russian citizens in its first year. This was reported by Murat Zyazikov, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cyprus.
"The steady increase in the number of Russian citizens seeking our services and legal advice demonstrates the growing demand for Russia’s humanitarian presence. Supporting our fellow citizens and safeguarding their constitutional rights remains our primary task," stated the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Cyprus.
The diplomat noted that many citizens have approached the consular section for assistance, including help with relocating to Russia.
Recently, the department issued Russian visas to a family of German nationals, originally from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and their three children. Viktor, an IT specialist, and Ekaterina, a lawyer, had moved to Cyprus from Baden-Baden in late summer. After arriving on the island, they learned about the opportunity to apply for temporary residence in Russia under the August decree by the President of the Russian Federation, No. 702, "On Providing Humanitarian Support to Those Who Share Traditional Russian Spiritual and Moral Values."
“Ekaterina and Viktor expressed their gratitude to the Russian leadership and are eagerly looking forward to starting a new life in the Vladimir region, where their friends and relatives are already waiting for them,” the consular section wrote in a social media post.
It is also worth noting that the Russian Embassy in Cyprus began offering consular services in the northern part of the island in mid-August of the previous year. Since August 14, 2023, the Consular Section has moved its office from the buffer zone to the center of Nicosia.
Furthermore, it is reported that approximately 50,000 Russians currently reside in Northern Cyprus.
