Lefkoşa cleans up: fines for abandoned cars from August
The municipality of the Turkish part of Nicosia (LTB) has launched a campaign to remove old abandoned vehicles and waste from the Organized Industrial Zone, as they pose a threat to the environment, pedestrians, and traffic safety.
In cooperation with various departments, an agreement has been reached on where these vehicles will be relocated. The meeting was attended by LTB Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, Trade and Crafts Chamber Coordinator Hürrem Tulga, Lefkoşa Deputy Police Chief Hasan Karabaşak, and representatives from the municipal police, sanitation department, and the industrial department.
To inform business owners, a meeting was held on July 15 with local enterprise owners, and informational brochures had been distributed in advance. This was intended to help them prepare ahead of the deadline.
According to the municipality's statement, the deadline for voluntary removal of waste and vehicles is July 31, 2025. After this date, all remaining items will be forcibly removed by municipal services, and owners will be fined. The fine will be 100% of the minimum wage, in accordance with current environmental legislation.
Clean-up operations will begin on August 2, 2025. The municipality emphasizes that the goal is to make the industrial area cleaner, safer, and more orderly.
