TRNC MFA: the Turkish language is the foundation of national identity and statehood

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Turkish language is one of the key elements of national identity and the state system. The ministry noted that it attaches great importance to preserving the language, its correct and effective use, as well as passing it on to future generations.
The statement is timed to December 15 — the World Day of the Family of Turkic Languages, which was proclaimed at the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO held in November in Samarkand. The MFA noted that the symbolism of this date is connected with the recognition by the scholarly community of the Orkhon inscriptions as belonging to the Turkic languages, which underscores the ancient history of the Turkish language and its significant place in the world’s cultural heritage.
The ministry also pointed out that today the Turkish language, with its numerous dialects and varieties, remains a living language spoken by millions of people. One of the priorities identified is strengthening cultural and linguistic cooperation with the Turkic world.
