Turkey’s Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, has pledged strong and ongoing support for the economic development of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Şimşek made the statement while visiting Northern Cyprus to attend the conference “The Development of the Turkish and Global Economy and Vision for the Future.”

In his speech, the minister highlighted the unfair international isolation faced by Northern Cyprus and reaffirmed Turkey’s full commitment to the TRNC’s long-term prosperity. He noted that the country's economic potential could be significantly boosted by focusing on high value-added services and strengthening domestic production.

The conference, held under the patronage of the TRNC President, was organized in collaboration with the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Banks of Northern Cyprus. The event took place at the newly inaugurated Presidential Complex and was attended by a number of high-profile officials, including TRNC President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the Assembly Ziya Öztürkler, Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri, Turkey’s Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, TRNC Finance Minister Özdemir Berova, and other dignitaries.

The event began with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by a series of keynote speeches.

Minister Şimşek arrived in Northern Cyprus earlier in the day and held a meeting with Turkish Cypriot President Ersin Tatar prior to the conference. The two leaders discussed potential strategies for addressing the global challenges facing both the TRNC and the Republic of Turkey.

Şimşek stressed that Turkey will continue to stand by Northern Cyprus in tackling these challenges and reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to supporting the Turkish Cypriot people. He concluded by stating that Turkey’s support for the TRNC’s economic progress will not waver.
