Transport Minister Announces Privatization of TRNC Ports
Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Public Works and Transport for the TRNC, has announced the start of the privatization process for the ports of Kyrenia and Famagusta.
Arıklı shared this information during a program on Kıbrıs TV.
He emphasized the importance of transforming Kyrenia's seaport into a tourist port. The privatization process is now in the "final stage," with the relevant tender set to take place in August.
Arıklı also pointed out that Famagusta Port has only 2-3 years left before it will need significant changes, stating that "serious measures are necessary."
The minister noted that public-private partnerships, which are common worldwide, should also be applied to Northern Cyprus's ports.
"If the Annan Plan had been implemented, could we say it is state property and that we wouldn't touch it? Of course not," the minister said.
