The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Has Started in Northern Cyprus
The World Series of Poker (WSOP), supported by Merit Poker and Merit Hotels, has begun in Northern Cyprus and has already completed its first week of competition.
During the first weekly stage of the tournament, players from approximately 80 countries registered; more than 3,000 people arrived in Northern Cyprus to participate, mostly from Europe.
Accompanying persons were added to the participants, resulting in a total number of tourists and guests related to the tournament exceeding 6,000 people. According to the organizers, this has a significant impact on the economies of Girne, Alsancak, Karşıyaka, and Karaoğlanoğlu regions.
The organizers note that holding the WSOP additionally strengthens the influx of tourists in the tournament tourism segment and increases the international recognition of the TRNC as a venue for major gaming events.
The article also notes that under the auspices of Merit Hotels, the number of participants in bridge and tavla tournaments grows annually, serving as a factor in the sustainable growth of tournament tourism in Northern Cyprus.
