Man Lives for Several Days in Prayer Room at Erjan Airport

At Erjan Airport in Northern Cyprus, a man was discovered who had been living for several days in the prayer room inside the terminal.
According to the police, on January 30, security staff reported an unknown man who had been in the prayer room for about four days. After verification, it was found that he is a citizen of Benin, identified by the initials A.N.T.
An immigration check showed that the man had been in Northern Cyprus illegally since November 29 — without a valid residence permit. The total period of his illegal stay amounted to 62 days.
Previously, he had appeared in court and was placed in custody for three days so that the authorities could initiate deportation proceedings. However, the necessary approvals and responses from the relevant authorities have not yet been received.
The court granted the police request and extended the man’s detention for another eight days — to complete all formalities related to his deportation from the country.
