The number of hospitalizations due to heat is rising in Cyprus: there are severe cases
Hospitals in Cyprus are seeing an increase in the number of patients amid ongoing heat. According to the Organization of State Medical Institutions (OKYPI), several people have been hospitalized in recent days with signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
According to OKYPI spokesperson Pambos Charilaou, a man and a woman with signs of heat exhaustion are currently in one of the hospitals. At the Nicosia General Hospital, four elderly men (aged 89, 78, and 72) are being treated for heat strokes. Their condition is described as severe but stable.
At the Limassol General Hospital, a 61-year-old man with severe heat stroke is in the intensive care unit. His condition is extremely serious.
Additionally, doctors report an increase in patients presenting with complaints of headaches, weakness, skin rashes, and general malaise — typical symptoms of heat fatigue.
Separately, seven people injured in a large-scale fire in the Limassol mountains have been admitted to hospitals. Two with severe burns are in a specialized clinic in Nicosia. Their condition is serious but stable. Another five are receiving treatment in other medical institutions, including Limassol Hospital.
Medical professionals remind the public that in extreme heat conditions, it is especially important to take precautions — avoid sun exposure, drink more water, and monitor the health of the elderly and vulnerable groups.
