Cyprus Works to Recover from Severe Hailstorm
Efforts are ongoing in Northern Cyprus to repair the damage caused by a severe hailstorm in the İskele region. The Emergency Committee is working to clear blocked roads, while the Ministry of Agriculture has pledged support for affected farmers.
Hüseyin Cahitoğlu, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Emergency Committee, provided an update on the response efforts.
According to Cahitoğlu, the hardest-hit villages were Yenierenköy, Yeşilköy, Sipahi, and Adaçay in the İskele district. The district governor has launched an assessment of the damage, while the Erenköy-Karpaz Municipality and the İskele Police Department continue efforts to clear debris and reopen roads. A grader is expected to be sent to the area to assist with the work.
"We are actively working alongside the İskele district governor, the Erenköy-Karpaz Municipality, police, civil defense teams, and municipal workers to address the situation," said Hüseyin Cahitoğlu.
In addition, technical teams from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Livestock, and the Agricultural Insurance Fund have begun assessing damage to farms and livestock in the affected areas.
