Severe Hailstorm Covers Lapta in Snow
A powerful hailstorm hit Lapta last night, blanketing the streets in snow and causing road closures. Harsh weather conditions are also affecting other parts of Northern Cyprus. The municipality has issued a reminder about emergency service contact numbers.
According to municipal reports, snowfall in villages such as Ataser, Başpınar, Yeşiltepe, Ilgaz, and Malatya, as well as several other areas, reached up to 15 centimeters. Drivers are urged to be extremely cautious on the roads.
The Lapta – Alsancak – Çamlıbel Municipality responded swiftly to the weather crisis. Thanks to the efforts of municipal teams, roads in Başpınar that were temporarily closed due to the hailstorm were quickly reopened to traffic.
Meanwhile, the mayor has warned that adverse weather conditions are expected to continue. Residents are advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
— "According to the latest information from the Meteorology Department, rainy weather with hail is expected in our region tonight and tomorrow morning. We strongly urge everyone to stay indoors unless it is absolutely necessary," the mayor wrote late last night.
