At the Ledra checkpoint, a wanted man for theft was caught
The Paphos Police arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of apartment burglary. The alleged culprit attempted to flee to the northern part of the island but was caught at the checkpoint.
According to the police press service, the crime in question was reported on January 22nd. A 47-year-old resident of Paphos reported an alarm triggered in her sister's apartment, who was absent. It turned out that the apartment had been broken into. The thief attempted to take a safe from the residence but was forced to abandon the loot and flee.
Subsequently, the police found a rented car allegedly used by the 34-year-old suspect: a permanent resident of the island who was also captured on the apartment's surveillance cameras.
During the search of the car, the police found various burglary tools, as well as stolen items. Following this, the police obtained a warrant against the 34-year-old man for burglary with forced entry, illegal possession of property, and possession of burglary tools. The suspect was declared wanted.
On Monday around 14:00, the wanted man appeared at the Ledra checkpoint in Nicosia and attempted to cross to the north. However, the authorities recognized him as a criminal and detained him. Various burglary tools and suspicious items were found on him during the search.
The man was arrested for possession of burglary tools and other illegal items and placed in custody at the Paphos prison.
