Free prostate cancer screenings will take place at the markets of Northern Cyprus
In connection with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month from March 1st to 31st, free prostate cancer screenings will be conducted at municipal markets in Northern Cyprus. PSA tests will be administered to men over 50 years old or over 45 years old for individuals with a family history of cancer.
According to a statement from the Cancer Patients Aid Association, the screening program is organized in collaboration with the Near East University Hospital (NEU) and municipalities.
Throughout March, screening examinations will take place at the markets of the municipalities of Kyrenia, Famagusta, Iskele, Güzelyurt, and Nicosia. More details about the screening schedule can be found here.
PSA testing will be conducted from 09:00 to 11:00.
The Association has been conducting prostate screenings for 3 years. As part of the screening last year, PSA tests were conducted for parliament and government officials, and the previous year for municipal employees.
The association's statement also notes that about 700 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in the country annually. More than 200 diagnosed cases are related to breast cancer, and more than 200 cases are related to prostate cancer.
In particular, as a result of last year's screening, oncological diseases or high indicators leading to cancer were detected in 8 municipal employees. They were all referred to doctors for treatment.
