Bikers in Northern Cyprus Hold Rally to Support Donkeys in Karpas

A group of bikers from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) organized a motorcycle rally to draw attention to the recent brutal killing of homeless donkeys in Karpas. The proceeds from the event will go towards the care and treatment of these animals.

The rally took place over the weekend, with strong participation from animal rights advocates and bikers. The event aimed to raise awareness about the mistreatment of stray donkeys in Dipkarpaz.

Umut Sag, president of the Cyprus Bikers Group, expressed his sorrow over the killing of the donkeys in Karpas and supported the initiative led by Hakki Elvin, the leader of the Cerberus motorcycle club. The ride attracted bikers from all over Northern Cyprus, who traveled to Karpas to highlight the dire conditions in which the donkeys are living.

The shocking incident occurred on Sunday, February 16, about 500 meters northwest of a landfill in Dipkarpaz. Perpetrators shot a herd of stray donkeys. According to the latest reports, 16 donkeys were killed (previous reports mentioned 14 donkeys). Among the slain animals was a pregnant donkey, which was shot while giving birth.

After discovering the dead animals, the police launched a comprehensive investigation, which has been overseen by the head of Northern Cyprus. Last week, the police arrested four suspects, who have already been brought to court.
