An agreement on student transportation prices has been reached in Northern Cyprus
The Association of Turkish Cypriot Modern Public Transport Operators (Kar-İş) has reached an agreement with the Ministry of National Education of the TRNC on student transportation prices. The decision to suspend additional trips in the second half of the day has been canceled.
According to the president of the association, Fuat Topaloglu, the agreement outlines the basic prices for student transportation services for the 2023-2024 academic year, as well as supplements for additional trips in the second half of the day.
As per the agreement, the basic price, which was initially 2,500 Turkish liras, has been increased to 3,180 TL. The supplement for extracurricular trips will be an additional 50% of this amount.
In accordance with the protocol signed yesterday evening, the new prices have already come into effect.
After reaching the agreement, the protest against the suspension of additional trips in the second half of the day on Mondays and Tuesdays has concluded.
It is worth noting that earlier there were disagreements between Kar-İş and the ministry regarding the method of determining the cost of student transportation. As a result, the association temporarily halted the transportation of students in the second half of the day.
