The TRNC police have warned the public about a batch of counterfeit US dollars that may have entered circulation. A total of 28 fake $100 bills have been discovered.
According to the police, the incident took place yesterday afternoon in Nicosia. A 26-year-old man visited a currency exchange office on Atatürk Street and attempted to exchange two counterfeit $100 bills. The exchange employee found them suspicious and immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and detained the suspect.
Upon searching the man, officers found an additional 26 counterfeit $100 bills in his possession, bringing the total amount seized to $2,600. The fake bills were confiscated as evidence.
Since some of these counterfeit banknotes may have already entered circulation, the police have published their serial numbers and are urging the public to stay alert.
Anyone who comes across a $100 bill with the specified serial numbers is advised to check its authenticity and report any suspicious cases to the nearest police station. Employees of banks, currency exchange offices, and other financial institutions are especially urged to remain vigilant.
