Giant Record-Breaking Turtle, Weighing 90 kg, Under Treatment in Northern Cyprus
In the Tashkent Natural Park, a record-breaking giant green turtle weighing nearly 90 kg is undergoing treatment. This specimen is the largest ever encountered by local conservationists.
According to the park's director, Kemal Basat, this turtle is the heaviest green turtle observed in history, weighing a record 89.9 kg. A rescue team made tremendous efforts to transport the giant turtle to the park center – it barely fit into the vehicle.
Park officials express their astonishment at the turtle's incredible size, calling it an "extremely rare occurrence."
"We witnessed a record that may never be surpassed again. All adult specimens of this species that have come to our Center weighed on average 50-60 kilograms," shared Kemal Basat.
The "patient" has been admitted to the Wildlife Hospital, where specialists are overseeing its recovery. The animal's condition is critical but stable; the upcoming days are crucial.
Once the necessary treatment and rehabilitation are completed, the turtle will be released back into its natural habitat.
