Northern Cyprus Assesses Frost-Damaged Areas
Authorities in Northern Cyprus have launched efforts to assess agricultural areas affected by recent frost. TRNC Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş met with farmers in the village of Yıldırım to discuss the current challenges in the agricultural sector and evaluate the extent of the damage.
According to the minister, officials have already begun identifying affected regions, and measures will soon be taken to minimize farmers’ losses. After listening to their concerns, Çavuş visited agricultural sites to inspect the damage firsthand.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources will continue to support farmers through incentives and timely financial aid. Additionally, the minister held a meeting on the development of an Integrated Agricultural Information System, set to be completed by the end of this year. This system aims to establish a more structured and sustainable production model in the TRNC.
Farmers are still assessing the damage caused by the unusually cold weather that has hit the country in recent weeks. The worst-affected areas include Güzelyurt, Famagusta, and Karpas. The Agricultural Insurance Committee has announced that it will provide financial support to ensure farmers’ losses are covered.
