Northern Cyprus to Introduce Smart Taximeters
Northern Cyprus is set to introduce next-generation smart taximeters in taxis and public transport. This decision was made during a recent meeting of the TRNC Traffic and Transport Services Commission.
The meeting, chaired by Minister of Transport Erhan Arıklı, focused on the status of the Degirmenlik - Çatalköy road (the Girne mountain road) and the discussion of new license plates. It was also decided to implement the new smart taximeters in taxis and public transportation, although specific details on this initiative have yet to be disclosed.
Additionally, the commission agreed to begin improvement works on the Degirmenlik - Çatalköy road, widening it to 8 meters and prohibiting heavy vehicles from using the right lane.
Participants also decided to impose age restrictions on buses that transport students and to conduct necessary consultations with the Ministry of National Education regarding this matter.
A follow-up meeting is scheduled for September 26, during which members will receive updates on the progress of the Public Transportation Development Master Plan.
