Pesticide-Contaminated Mandarins and Eggplants Found in Northern Cyprus
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has announced the results of its weekly food safety inspection, which tested for harmful substances in various food products.
According to the statement, samples taken from both imported and local products between January 31 and February 6 were analyzed at the State Laboratory, following the European Union's pesticide residue standards.
A total of 23 samples of imported products were collected, all of which were found to be free of contaminants. Additionally, 32 out of 34 samples of locally produced goods were deemed safe for consumption. However, two products exceeded the maximum allowable pesticide levels.
The affected products included mandarins of the "Mandora" variety from Yeşilyurt, as well as eggplants from a company in Bostancı. Harvesting of these products has been suspended until the next round of laboratory testing.
