A two-day workshop on the management of marine protected areas was held in Lefkoşa, Lapta, and Alagadi, bringing together over 100 participants—from fishermen and tourism representatives to scientists and government agencies.

Experts discussed the creation of a sustainable marine environment protection system and shared international experiences. It was noted that marine protected areas are crucial not only for ecology but also for preserving the livelihoods of local fishermen.

Special attention was given to the results of work in Alagadi, where over the past 15 years, natural habitats have been restored and rare species have returned thanks to restrictions and the collaborative efforts of various organizations.

The event also included field meetings with fishermen and discussions on the development of fishing zones in the region.

The initiative is implemented with EU support as part of environmental projects for the protection of the marine environment.
