On October 1, 2025, a ceremony was held in Northern Cyprus to mark the opening of the new legislative year of the Republican Assembly. The session was opened by the Assembly Speaker Ziya Öztürkler, who presented an overview of the institution's history and the results of the fourth legislative year.

The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu thanked the deputies and Assembly staff for their work and called for a respectful conduct of the pre-election period. He also expressed hope for the prompt adoption of the laws expected by the population.

The Chairman of the Rebirth Party and Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı noted that 63 laws were adopted in the previous term and emphasized the Assembly’s key role in addressing public issues. Arıklı stated that in the upcoming presidential elections on October 19, supporters of federation and supporters of two states will compete, referring to statements from Turkey’s leadership and the relevant decision of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey dated July 18, 2024.

The General Hall of the Assembly unanimously voted to suspend work for 15 days due to the presidential elections; the next session is scheduled for October 20. The replacement of members of the temporary committee for harmonizing bills with the European Union was also unanimously approved: deputies Alişan Şan and Hasan Küçük were added to the committee instead of the previously appointed Minister of Labor and Social Protection Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and Assembly Speaker Ziya Öztürkler.
