The "Barrier-Free Life Home," designed for individuals with disabilities, has officially opened in the TRNC. In its first phase, 88 people will benefit from its services during the day.

The opening ceremony, which took place yesterday, was attended by TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, and the Mayor of Değirmenlik–Akindjilar, Ali Karavezirler.

The first section of the "Barrier-Free Life Home" is located near Minareliköy, on the Nicosia-Famagusta road. It includes an administrative building and residential spaces with a capacity of 28 beds for individuals with disabilities over the age of 18.

This project has been developed as a rehabilitation center, offering physiotherapy, special education, psychological support, and creative and educational activities.

The second phase of the "Barrier-Free Life Home," expected to open later, will cater to people with disabilities under 18 years old. The residential part of the center, which will provide accommodation for individuals with disabilities in Northern Cyprus, is planned to open in 2025.

According to Guliz Kaner, a representative of the Barrier-Free Life Association, the project took around 12 years to complete. During this time, 10 different ministers held office in Northern Cyprus.

She also emphasized that the "Barrier-Free Life Home" was designed to provide both daily and 24-hour care, and expressed hope that the remaining part of the project will be completed as soon as possible.
