In Northern Cyprus, they celebrate World Tourist Guides Day
The Association of Turkish Cypriot Guides (KITREB) celebrated February 21st - World Tourist Guides Day. The union congratulated all guides working in the tourism industry, emphasizing that tourism is not possible without tourist guides.
In his message on the occasion of World Tourist Guides Day, KITREB President Dener Oymen noted that this year's theme was determined by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations as "Green Tourism" with an emphasis on the importance of environmentally sustainable development, global warming, and climate change.
The union leader stated that KITREB would develop in this direction and expand its activities in the tourism sector.
On February 21st, World Tourist Guides Day, it was first celebrated by 15 member countries in 1990, after the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) was registered in 1987 under Austrian law. In Northern Cyprus, the holiday has been celebrated since 2000.
To celebrate the holiday in the TRNC, free tours are organized for the public and tourists, as well as educational masterclasses for tourist guides.
"I wish for the days when all KITREB laws will be implemented, there will be no illegal guides, the basic salary of tourism guides, which has not increased since 2008, will increase, guides will specialize in their fields, the international membership of our Association will be approved, and tourism will receive the value it deserves," said Dener Oymen.
Tonight at 7:00 PM at the Acapulco Holiday Village, a cocktail party will be organized for guides.
