Northern Cyprus to Celebrate World Olive Tree Day with Olive Planting Events
November 26 is recognized globally as World Olive Tree Day, and Northern Cyprus is set to mark the occasion by planting olive saplings.
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is organizing this initiative to emphasize the importance of protecting nature and the enduring significance of the olive tree.
“World Olive Tree Day is celebrated annually on November 26. This global event highlights the ecological, cultural, and economic value of olives and olive trees. The day was established to promote the protection of olive trees, sustainable olive production, and the critical role these trees have played throughout human history,” the university explained in a statement.
EMU also noted that olive trees are highly significant, both for their health benefits and cultural importance. Their distinctive fruit occupies a central place in many diets, while the olive oil derived from them is a staple ingredient around the world.
The olive sapling planting ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 10:30 AM, in the garden of EMU’s Faculty of Health Sciences.
