In Northern Cyprus, a fraudster was caught in the housing rental market
The TRNC police detained a scammer who fraudulently obtained money from four individuals under the pretext of renting out an apartment. The perpetrator was leasing non-existent accommodations via Facebook.
According to the police press service, the fraudster operated in Nicosia and Kyrenia. It is known that from April 3rd to 8th, a 29-year-old man created an account named "Girne Rental Houses" on the Facebook social media platform to lease apartments in Nicosia and Kyrenia.
On his social media page, he posted photos of housing that he did not actually own or have the right to rent out. Four people responded to the fake advertisements and contacted the page owner to rent an apartment, collectively giving him a total of 15,000 Turkish liras and 9,700 British pounds in cash as rent and deposit for the rented accommodation.
The police were able to track down the fake landlord and arrested him. No further details about the detained individual are provided by the police. Only his age and initials - H.Ş. - are known.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
