Book Launch in Northern Cyprus Explores the History of Turkish Cypriot Soda
A new book, "Memory in a Bottle: The History of Turkish Cypriot Soda," by Professor Senih Cavusoglu, will be presented in Northern Cyprus. The book explores the story of soda production on the island and its role in the cultural resistance of Turkish Cypriots.
The launch event is scheduled for January 25 at 2:00 PM at Rüstem Bookstore. During the event, the author will share insights from his research and sign copies for attendees.
The book is the product of a detailed five-year oral history project. Drawing on newspaper archives and other period publications, it delves into the social, economic, and political history of Turkish Cypriots through the lens of soda production, shedding light on their cultural heritage.
- "The book uncovers fascinating stories about soda production and reflects on this iconic beverage as a symbol of cultural resistance. From coffeehouses to weddings, football matches, and festive tables across the island, soda has left an indelible mark on daily life," the author explained.
"Memory in a Bottle" is published in both Turkish and English and features full-color printing. It covers the period from the start of World War II through the 1990s, offering readers a glimpse into the island's unique cultural and historical journey.
