Northern Cyprus Approves the 2025 Presidential Budget
The Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance, Budget, and Planning began its discussions on the draft law for the 2025 fiscal year budget of the Central State Administration yesterday. By a majority vote, the Presidential Budget was approved at 619 million 500 thousand Turkish lira.
The debate over the President's budget sparked heated discussions. The ruling party and opposition disagreed on the role of TRNC President Ersin Tatar both domestically and internationally, as well as his successes and failures in resolving the Cyprus issue.
After speeches from lawmakers, the Presidential Budget was approved by a majority vote.
Following this, the committee moved on to discussing the budget for the Republican Assembly.
It's worth noting that the discussion of the TRNC budget for 2025 was supposed to start last week. However, parliamentary work was suspended for a week due to disagreements among coalition members regarding the legitimacy and fairness of the Speaker of the Assembly election.
Yesterday, after Ziya Öztürkler was re-elected as Speaker for the second time this month, the budget discussions finally began.
