Successful deep brain stimulation surgery performed in Northern Cyprus
On 14 November 2025, neurosurgeon Dr. Çağın Ozankaya announced on social media that his team had successfully performed a deep brain stimulation operation in Northern Cyprus. According to the doctor, the procedure is intended for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
During the surgery, electrodes are placed in specific areas of the brain to regulate abnormal neural circuit activity, which significantly improves motor control. Ozankaya noted that such procedures represent an important step toward improving patients’ quality of life.
The work involved neurology and anesthesiology specialists, specialised nurses, anesthesia technicians and technical services. The doctor emphasised the importance of coordinated teamwork and described the moment when the patient regained their own “rhythm” as one of the most meaningful in his practice.
Ozankaya added that medical advances in this field continue, and the exchange of professional expertise enhances treatment outcomes.
