Import of Frozen Meat Allowed in Northern Cyprus
The Council of Ministers of the TRNC has authorized the import of frozen meat. The decision came into force after its publication in the "Official Gazette."
According to the resolution of the Council of Ministers, the import of boneless frozen lamb meat and minced meat into the country is permitted. Imported meat products are exempt from all taxes and duties.
"The Council of Ministers has decided to exempt frozen boneless lamb meat and frozen minced meat (in packages) from all types of customs duties, taxes, official fees, funds, etc. (except GTSF)," the document states.
Previously, maximum prices were set for local lamb meat in the TRNC. The cost of meat should not exceed 550 Turkish liras per kilogram. The decision sparked strong dissatisfaction among butchers. For a while, meat even disappeared from the shelves of stores.
