In Northern Cyprus, after 5 months, they caught a thief of women's clothing at Ercan Airport
In Northern Cyprus, 5 months after the crime was committed, a young man appeared in court for stealing items from a passenger's suitcase at Ercan Airport. After the crime, the thief managed to leave the island but was detained upon his return.
As it became known during the court hearing, the crime was committed on September 13, 2023. At around 18:30, the suspect stole various items of women's clothing and academic student documents from the passenger's suitcase in the arrival hall of Ercan Airport.
The victim reported the theft to the police a month later, on October 17. The identity of the thief was established from surveillance camera recordings.
The suspect could not be arrested in the fall because he left the country before being identified. However, the man was arrested on February 12, 2024, upon his return to Northern Cyprus.
The police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspect, who was in the country on a tourist status, be remanded in custody for a period not exceeding 20 days.
The judge agreed with this decision.
