Livestock Farmers in North Cyprus Strike for Third Consecutive Day
For the third day in a row, the protest initiated by the Union of Animal Producers and Breeders continues in North Cyprus. The strike participants are once again gathering in front of the Prime Minister's residence in Nicosia.
The union's chairman, Mustafa Naimoğulları, stated that livestock farmers met with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources last night. However, they failed to reach a consensus during the negotiations. Therefore, the protest will continue today.
On Monday, May 20, livestock producers announced an indefinite protest against the government's decision to import meat from the Netherlands and the low prices offered for products such as raw milk and livestock, which they claim do not cover the rising costs of production.
The strike participants have blocked access to the Prime Minister's residence and are lighting bonfires near the building. On the first day of the protest, four protesters were arrested but have since been released. Additionally, on the second day of the protest, participants attempted to storm the gates of the Prime Minister's office and broke them.
