Youth Unemployment in Northern Cyprus Reaches 19.1%

In Northern Cyprus, the overall employment rate stands at 48.4%, with a labor force participation rate of 50.7%. A total of 181,203 people are employed, according to the Statistical Institute.
The employment rate is 60% for men and 35.3% for women. Unemployment is recorded at 2.9% for men and 7.3% for women. In the 15–24 age group, unemployment has reached 19.1%, with the rate among young women significantly higher at 29.1% compared to 12.8% for young men.
The majority of the workforce (75.4%) is employed in the services sector. Agriculture accounts for 3.7%, industry 11.1%, and construction 9.8%. There are 6,790 people employed in the agrarian sector.
Nearly half of the working-age population (49.3%) is not in the labor force. Among them, 29% are students, 26.5% are engaged in household duties, and 23.5% are retirees.
The so-called underemployment or hidden unemployment rate was 6.9%.
