On Northern Cyprus, a drunken thief who fell asleep during a robbery has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison
A court in Northern Cyprus has issued a verdict against a robber who broke into an apartment, drank homemade alcohol, and fell asleep in the kitchen. The court sentenced the thief to 3.6 years of imprisonment.
The defendant in the case was Feruz Matrasulov, accused of "housebreaking," "theft," and "trespassing on property."
According to the materials of the criminal case, the crime was committed in the village of Alaykoy on September 19, 2023, around 6:00 PM. The accused broke into a garden house belonging to his former boss. Once inside the residence, the thief went to the kitchen, drank homemade alcohol, and fell asleep on the floor.
The suspect was apprehended at the crime scene by the police who responded to the call. Stolen items, including a bread knife and a mobile phone, were found in his possession.
During the trial, the accused admitted that he had broken into this house before because he had nowhere to stay. Additionally, he mentioned that he had previously stolen a vacuum cleaner from the residence, which he sold to an unknown person in Nicosia.
Furthermore, the investigation revealed that before being caught, the accused had been in the country without a residence permit for 172 days.
After hearing the prosecution's case, the court unanimously sentenced the defendant to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
